Notes for KENNETH COATS:
Kenneth's father was Homer Coats born in Illinois, met and married Dora Arnold in Ross Township in
Clinton Co., Indiana, according to the 1900 census. They had two children listed in the census, Edna and
Orval. They moved to Warren Co after the 1910 census and were listed on the 1920 Warren Co. census. Edna
and Orval had already left home and Paul and Kenneth are listed as living at home.
After they were married Kenneth and Margaret moved to California for a brief time and then returned to
Murfreesboro. Kenneth and Homer had separate houses on the same farm.
Kenneth disappeared and no one knows where he is. He was cruel and ruthless. He told aunt Margaret that he
was going away and did not tell her what he was doing only that when he returned that she would never have
to worry about a thing ever again. If he was not successful she would never hear from him again. Apparently
he was not successful because no one has ever heard from him since!! This was told to me by my father and
aunt Gertrude Hoover.
Dad related a story about Kenneth's mischieviousness. In 1932 When dad was about ten He and Papa went
to visit Margaret and Kenneth in Murfreesboro. Noah Robinson's son and his wife were killed in a car
accident and Papa returned quickly to Centertown, leaving dad to stay on the farm with aunt Margaret.
Kenneth took dad out to the pasture to see about the cows when suddenly Kenneth pulled a revolver and shot
a cow in the head. Obviously Kenneth intended to shoot the cow but he wanted to scare dad!
Acccording to Al Fernendez Kenneth may have drown.

Notes for MARTHA GERTRUDE PAGE:
"Margaret and I moved to McMinnville in 1944. I was 18 at the time, Arvle was already there and was
working at the Silk Mill. Margaret got a job at the Garment Company and I got a job at the Hosiery Mill. We
lived in an appartment on Spring Street in Mrs. Myers' house. Then we rented a house on the street that was
beside the Church of God in McMinnville. I don't remember the name of the street but it was the first little
house after you pass the church. We lived there untill Arvle and Margaret got married and mama and papa
moved to McMinnville and I went back home. I don't recall how much per hour I made but probally at that
time it was probally not much more than 50 cents per hour. Not long after the war ended the hosiery Mill
closed because they lost the Army sock orders and everybody was laid off. At that time mama and papa were
living on Swann Street. I got a job with the telephone company and worked there untill I moved to
Manchester." letter from aunt Gertrude, July 10, 2001
